The BACE Childbirth Educator Training Program is different from other programs because it offers:

  • 40 hours of classroom time with experienced and dynamic faculty members, educators and experts in the fields of maternal health and obstetrics/midwifery.
  • Individual mentoring and support during and after the program.
  • Practice and skill-building activities to increase confidence and readiness to teach. Upon completion of this course, students will be prepared to teach material in a dynamic and engaging way and will have developed a BACE class curriculum complete with teaching activities and learner objectives.
  • The opportunity for a solid understanding of the material. Throughout the course, our training staff will assess each trainee’s understanding of the course content. The results will be used to define the student’s study goals and a plan for successful completion of the course.
  • A faculty member who will observe their first 12 hour childbirth series and give ongoing feedback and mentoring.
  • A unique opportunity for those who have a strong background in birth-related knowledge and are already trained as childbirth educators, to increase their confidence, strengthen their teaching skills and revitalize their own courses! Contact us for more details on individualizing a program to fit your goals.

Course Overview

  • Formal coursework consists of 40 hours of class time over the period of 3 months. (Download the BACE 2022
  • Course Syllabus and Schedule).
  • The curriculum includes 4 hours of instruction on teaching and engaging adult learners. This experiential portion of the course is fundamental to learning how to design a curriculum, planning and organizing childbirth classes, acquiring teaching strategies and understanding key principles of adult education.
  • The heart of the course consists of 7 weekly four – hour evening seminars. At each seminar, specific content of the curriculum will be reviewed in detail, learning objectives will be defined. Students will be required to come prepared to teach a brief portion of one of the topics being covered that day.
  • By completing each of the evening seminars, the student will gain exposure and experience with the primary elements of a comprehensive childbirth education curriculum. This will allow students to design, step by step, their own complete childbirth class series. At the end of the course, students will work individually with one of our faculty to finalize their curriculum outline with specific teaching methods and class activities for each section.
